Workers sorting piles of colourful textile offcuts for recycling
Responsibility

What we actually do.

Making clothes uses water, energy and material. Here is how we try to use less.

Where we stand

Garment making is a heavy industry.

We make millions of garments a year. That uses water, energy and fibre, and no amount of language changes it.

What we can do is use less, be straight about where we are, and not dress it up. We are not carbon neutral, we do not buy offsets to say we are, and we do not call a garment sustainable because one part of it is.

Fibre

A growing share of what we make is organic or recycled, and we can show where it came from rather than just saying so.

Water

Dyeing is the thirstiest thing a garment factory does. Ours runs on low-water machines with heat recovery, and the water is treated on site.

Waste

Cutting-room offcuts are sorted by fibre and go to recycling rather than landfill.

Energy

Solar on the roofs of our own sites, and a plan to keep raising the share.

Materials

Sorted at the cutting table, not at the end of the line.

The people

Who works here.

Pay

Everyone here is paid above the legal minimum, and we are open about where we sit against a living wage.

Hours

A standard week, with overtime that is voluntary and paid at a premium.

Speaking up

An independent line at every site, and worker committees that meet management every month.

No exceptions

No home working, no undisclosed subcontracting. A breach ends the relationship — it has happened twice, and both times it did.
